| The retreat house is positioned below grade in order to minimize its visual impact in a scenic desert valley. This also allows the structure to take advantage of the earth’s thermal mass, with its temperature averaging effects, resulting in more even, comfortable temperatures in a harsh desert environment. A courtyard and operable clerestory windows provide generous natural light and air circulation throughout the house. | ||
