Christopher Strawn - Catching Light Problem I - Summer Semester 2007
Problem Description: Catching Light II is divided into three separate problems that build upon each other. After gaining a basic understanding of the structural qualities of paper in the first problem (see Catching Light I), the students further develop its design potential by creating a paper screen wall at a larger scale. They may choose to work with a module that acts as part of a larger system. Connections between paper planes must be created without the use of glue or fasteners. How light and shadow interacts with the design continues to be a primary focus. For the last problem the students work in teams of two. Each team develops a large-scale screen wall, approximately 6' tall by 8' wide. Choice of materials, structure and the development of connections becomes increasingly important. |
